Bullying: Should the Legal System Be Involved?
Description: This teaching resource encourages students to think about different fields of law using the theme of bullying. Through legal case studies, discussion questions and activities, students must formulate and debate their ideas on bullying. At the same time, students practice critical thinking about how to resolve a complex problem and learn how laws are passed in Parliament. Suggested activities provide guidelines for writing and presenting a political memo and a persuasive editorial, and arguing a case before a tribunal (a kind of court).
Target Audience: High school students, especially Secondary Cycle Two
Suggested Time: One to three 60-minute courses.

Reasonable Accommodation (Coming in May 2012!)
This activity introduces students to the notion of reasonable accommodation of minorities and differences, and to the work of judges.
Learning tools include an introduction to the topic, discussion points based on two court decisions, simulations and a writing exercise that calls for reflection about personal beliefs.
A golden opportunity to help students hone their critical thinking skills.
A Right to Privacy
Description: This teaching resource encourages students to think about why the law protects a right to privacy in Canada. Students learn about private rights through legal case studies, discussion questions, a simulation of a negotiation session and a writing assignment. They are also asked to take a position on how privacy rights in Canada should be defined.
Target Audience: High school students.
Suggested Time: Two 75-minute courses, plus optional extra activities.

The Criminal Legal Process
Description: This activity explains the roles of the various people involved in a criminal trial and the steps in this process. The activity starts by giving some background information on the Canadian legal system.
This activity can be used in tandem with the activity “Careers in Justice”.
Target Audience: High school students

Careers in Justice
Description: There is a wide range of careers in the world of justice. Some are familiar to most people, but others are often overlooked or misunderstood.
In this activity, students get a chance to learn about all of the careers in the justice field.
Target Audience: High school students, especially those in Secondary Cycle Two.
